Upton Place on Wisconsin: A Landmark Residential and Retail Destination Opens in Northwest DC
March 4, 2024
Donohoe Development, in partnership with Apartment Investment and Management Company (Aimco), is thrilled to announce the opening of the final phase of Upton Place on Wisconsin (“Upton Place”) at 4000 Wisconsin Avenue NW, a landmark $300MM adaptive re-use development project that promises to redefine urban living in northwest Washington, DC. This expansive project introduces 689 multifamily residences, including 65 affordable units, approximately 100,000 square feet of prime retail space, and a restored 800-space below-grade parking garage, bordering North Cleveland Park.
“We are immensely proud to unveil Upton Place to Washington, DC,” said Evan Weisman, President of Donohoe Development. “This project is about creating a community that enhances the urban experience for everyone. With the opening of our residential towers, the upcoming launch of our retail spaces, and the connection to Glover-Archbold Park, we are setting a new standard for what urban development can achieve.”
After a decade of meticulous planning, community engagement, and innovative construction, Upton Place is now leasing its idyllic living spaces across two distinct buildings. Donohoe Construction completed The Parc, with 234 luxury residences overlooking Glover-Archbold Park, in November 2023. 4K Wisconsin, with 455 modern apartment homes along Wisconsin Avenue, recently opened this February. AIR Communities is welcoming new residents to experience the unique blend of luxury and modern living in both The Parc and 4K Wisconsin apartment buildings.
“There are very few development projects that combine this level of great location and outstanding design with a smart, conscientious development team to build and manage a new place to live and play,” added Matt Hopkins, SVP of Development for Aimco. “Upton Place has all those advantages creating a vibrant community that contributes to the active lifestyle of the neighborhood surrounding it.”
SK+I Architecture enhanced each building’s unique characteristics while seamlessly integrating extensive amenities, including two luxurious pools, rooftop entertainment spaces, multiple courtyards, a large commuter lobby with immediate access to bike storage, co-working areas, and social spaces designed for modern urban living. The LEED Silver buildings feature innovative solar panels constructed on top of green roofs, designed in collaboration with the Department of Energy & Environment. Neighboring Glover-Archbold Park received significant improvements in cooperation with the National Park Service and the Rock Creek Conservancy, including removing invasive species and planting native trees and plants along the shared property line, as well as new signage to mark the start of the Glover-Archbold Trail at 40th and Upton Streets.
The retail space at Upton Place is set to become a bustling hub for the community, with the imminent opening of anchor tenants that include a state-of-the-art 55,000-square-foot OneLife Fitness gym and a 30,000-square-foot Lidl grocery store, providing unparalleled convenience to residents and the surrounding neighborhood. Additional small-format retail spaces for lease by Donohoe Commercial Real Estate will offer diverse shopping and dining options, catering to every taste and need. The community will also host Placemakr, a 150-room temporary pop-up hotel, on the first two floors of 4K Wisconsin beginning this spring.
A grand opening celebration for Upton Place is planned for the coming months, where the public will be invited to experience firsthand the unparalleled amenities and lifestyle this landmark development offers.
