Donohoe Development and Koucar Management announced the official start of construction on the Cambria Hotel Washington D.C. Capitol Riverfront. The new-construction, nine-story, 154-room upscale hotel is situated at 69 Q Street SW in a rapidly redeveloping area of the city.

The milestone was marked at an event attended by local dignitaries and area business leaders. Featured speakers included:

D.C. Councilman Charles Allen
Pat Pacious, president and CEO, Choice Hotels International
Evan Weisman, executive vice president, Donohoe Development Company
Fredrica Kramer, co-chair, Near Southeast/Southwest Community Benefits Coordinating Council
Thomas Penny, III, president, Donohoe Hospitality Services

The southwest D.C. community expressed their support for the project coming to their neighborhood in early 2021. ANC 6D commissioner, Rhonda Hamilton added, “This is one of the rare occasions that I worked with a developer that truly has a heart for the community and who is willing to work hard to ensure that their presence in this area and their project creates positive outcomes and impacts for the residents.”

Donohoe Construction is the general contractor bringing to life the locally inspired design by BBGM Architects. Following a local resident’s suggestion, the cornice from the site’s original row house will be salvaged and installed above the reception desk to honor the past, present, and future of Southwest D.C. Neighborhood amenities will also include a ground-level restaurant and scenic rooftop event space with a 3,500-square-foot terrace.

The Cambria Hotel Washington D.C. Capitol Riverfront is Donohoe Development’s newest project with co-developer Koucar Management. Donohoe Hospitality Services will manage the new hotel; the Cambria Hotel Washington D.C. Capitol Riverfront will be the second Cambria Hotel in the Donohoe Hospitality portfolio. Complete Building Services will be the facilities manager for the building.
