Gallery Bethesda II is the sequel to its neighbor, Gallery Bethesda (delivered in 2014), The 16-story project includes 219 residential units and 12,500 square feet of retail, replaced aging two-story commercial buildings and surface parking lots with new high-rise apartments and high-ceilinged retail. The two multifamily buildings share three stories of below-grade parking and a pedestrian street, Gallery Lane, with retail, café seating, fountains, and unique public art commissioned for the site, further accentuating the revitalization of Woodmont Triangle as the new downtown Bethesda. The tower features a social lobby, sports-club style fitness center, pet spa, rooftop pool, an outdoor lounge/kitchen complete with grills and a pizza oven, catering kitchen, and indoor sky lounge with expansive panoramic views.
Gallery I and II required an extensive entitlements process including the assembly of 15 separate properties over several years, requiring the patience, deep financial resources, and sustained engagement that Donohoe Development brings to its projects. The project was the result of an intense planning process with Montgomery County’s planning department. Many of its design elements – setbacks, tower separation, creative massing, LEED Gold certification, progressive stormwater solutions, and a mid-block pedestrian street to break up an existing “superblock” – would later guide the new Bethesda Plan.
Gallery Bethesda II has been recognized with numerous awards, including Best New Luxury Apartment Building (Bethesda Magazine), Best Multi-Family Project – Montgomery County (NAIOP), and the best Lease-Up in Maryland Award (PACE).
