Donohoe announced the acquisition of 5151 Wisconsin Avenue in northwest Washington, DC. Eagle Bank provided the financing for the purchase. The 61,300 square foot property was initially developed by Donohoe and the Ourisman family and built by Donohoe Construction nearly 60 years ago and is the former home of both FOX5 and Donohoe’s Complete Building Services division.

“We are grateful to the Heider-Talbot family former property owners and our internal teams in development, real estate, construction, legal, and finance for their collaboration on this deal,” said Bob Donohoe, Jr., Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer.

Donohoe Development plans to reenvision the property as mixed-use multifamily.  The proposed new six-story building designed by Torti Gallas Urban would bring 214 residential units with underground parking, long-term bicycle spaces, and 1,500 square feet of neighborhood-serving café and restaurant space at the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Harrison Street.

“Our goal is to thoughtfully repurpose this property for the future,” said Chris Bruch, Donohoe’s President and CEO. “This project, along with others to follow, will bring new energy to DC’s Friendship Heights neighborhood.”

This will be Donohoe’s third recent development project along the Wisconsin Avenue corridor. Upton Place on Wisconsin at 4000 Wisconsin Avenue NW, a joint venture with Aimco, broke ground earlier this year on 689 multifamily residences and 100,000 square feet of retail. A third project, 5500 Wisconsin, is a joint venture with Carr Companies and is proposed to bring up to 380 high-quality apartments and 15,000 square feet of locally-focused retail to Maryland’s Friendship Heights.
